The common historical heritage of Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador is shown by the almost identical yellow-blue-red tricolour flags they use. Some other South American countries were influenced in their choice of flags by those of the United States or France.

If you’re designing a flag for an environmental organization, using shades of green can symbolize nature and sustainability. Burgee flags have a distinctive swallowtail shape, with a triangle cut out of one end. These flags are commonly used by yacht clubs, sailing organizations, and maritime enthusiasts. Burgee flags can represent specific clubs, indicate membership, or simply showcase a love for sailing.

There is also a statue in the plaza at Sonoma, California, commemorating the raising of the flag, the Bear Flag Monument. In 1836, a coup led by Juan Alvarado declared Alta California's independence from Mexico. Declaring himself governor, Alvarado recruited U.S. frontiersmen, led by Isaac Graham, to support him. The rebels easily captured the capital Monterey, but were unable to convince southern leaders such as Juan Bandini and Carlos Antonio Carrillo to join the rebellion. The Californian flag is one of two U.S. state flags to feature a bear, the other being that of Missouri.

“In heraldry, there’s a informal rule that don’t put yellow on white, or white on yellow. And you don’t put red on blue, or blue on green,” says Phillips. “Blue on white, red on gold, that’s a lot easier.” This contrast also ensures that if the flag is reproduced in black and white, it doesn’t entirely lose it’s meaning.

Written by a panel from the North American Vexillological Association, or NAVA, it shows how many factors have to be weighed when creating a truly eye-catching, timeless flag. Kevin McCarthy has been ousted as speaker of the House Here's what happens next.

house ousts mccarthy from speakership

The House voted on Tuesday to oust Representative Kevin McCarthy from the speakership, a move without precedent that left the chamber without a leader and plunged it into chaos. Republican Rep. Greg Murphy told CNN's Manu Raju that Kevin McCarthy should endure the fight to maintain his speakership for as long as it takes and called Gaetz's motion-to-vacate an "asinine gesture." Earlier Tuesday, the House failed to table – or block – the effort to oust him by a vote of 208 to 218 with 11 Republicans voting against the motion to table. “It is now the responsibility of the GOP members to end the House Republican Civil War,” Jeffries said, announcing the Democratic leadership would vote for the motion to oust the speaker. McCarthy told lawmakers in the evening he would not run again for speaker, putting the gavel up for grabs.

Law that ended single-family zoning is struck down for five Southern California cities

With a perilously slim 222-seat Republican majority in the 435-member House and facing a handful of defectors, McCarthy is working furiously to reach the 218 votes typically needed to become speaker. The increasing chances of a messy floor fight over the speaker’s gavel on Jan. 3, Day One of the new Congress, is worrying House Republicans, who have been meeting endlessly in private at the Capitol in an effort to resolve the standoff. Good, the chairman of the hard-right House Freedom Caucus, is expected to draw more opposition ahead of his primary in June. Last month, Republican Main Street Partnership, a group backing centrist House Republicans, announced its super PAC would engage in the race to defeat Good, The New York Times reported. The group, which was founded 2022, announced an effort Wednesday targeting members of Congress “who have voted against funding for enhanced border security in the past,” it said in a news release. At one point, an outraged McCarthy ally, Rep. Garret Graves, R-La., accused Gaetz and his cohorts of sending fundraising efforts on their motion to vacate.

House Democratic Caucus consensus

The 216-to-210 vote reflected the deep polarization in Congress and raised questions about who, if anyone, could muster the support to govern an increasingly unruly House G.O.P. majority. A handful of far-right Republicans broke with their party and voted to remove Kevin McCarthy from his leadership post. Murphy said he doubts, however, that a fight over the speakership would last long enough to risk a government shutdown and predicted McCarthy would still be speaker next week. With McCarthy removed from his leadership position, House Republicans will now look to find a replacement that can appease both far-right members and moderates in the party.

Who wasn't present for the vote?

A bloc of hardline conservatives, led by Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, have continued to thwart McCarthy, voting against key priorities of GOP leadership and repeatedly throwing up roadblocks to the speaker’s agenda. This bitter feud between Gaetz and McCarthy has roots dating back to McCarthy's initial ascent to the speakership. In January, Gaetz took to the House floor to accuse McCarthy of engaging in questionable financial dealings, a narrative that continued to simmer. As a concession to Gaetz and the 19 other Republicans who initially opposed his speakership, McCarthy altered House rules to enable any member to call for a snap vote on his ouster—which ultimately led to his failure to keep the position. Under House rules, McCarthy had until Wednesday to take up the resolution that Gaetz, a conservative Florida Republican and Donald Trump loyalist, filed Monday night.

Republican Party

Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy was removed as House speaker following a revolt from within his own party and went into the vote without a crucial ally who helped propel him to leadership in January — Donald Trump. During the hourlong meeting in the Capitol basement, McCarthy invoked Republican Speaker Joseph Cannon, who more than 100 years ago confronted his critics head-on by calling their bluff and setting the vote himself on his ouster. With the government running out of money again in a little over a month, the House has instead ousted the speaker for the first time in the chamber’s history — with no one to replace him.

House Democrats don't particularly like Gaetz, and voting to table the motion to vacate arguably would have been a vote to avert an extended period of chaos in the House that won't necessarily benefit them politically. Aside from a small group of staunch progressives, it's possible that rank-and-file Democrats could've taken a different approach. It's unclear how soon after McCarthy's ouster the Republican majority will begin the process for electing a successor.

Kevin McCarthy wins House speakership on 15th vote

So as a fiscal conservative – I'm angry – as a woman – I am deeply frustrated,” she said. Like with the effort to oust McCarthy that played out Tuesday, Gaetz was at the center of the dispute over the California Republican's quest to win the speakership in the first place. He angered some of his Republican colleagues when he voted "present" on the 14th round, blocking McCarthy's bid and forcing another ballot. "It's hard enough as a leader, especially with a four-seat majority, but then you start having the infighting here," Burgat said. "Pending such election, the member acting as speaker pro tempore may exercise such authorities of the Office of Speaker as may be necessary and appropriate to that end," the rules state. The requirement of a list appears to have originated with the 108th Congress that convened in January 2003.

house ousts mccarthy from speakership

But when Republicans retook the chamber with a slim majority, McCarthy capitulated to a group of hardline Republicans' demands that the measure be made available to any single member of the chamber. The House, under interim speaker Rep. Patrick McHenry of North Carolina, will now have to hold speaker elections once again, and it's not clear where that will lead. “The problem with my friend from Ohio’s argument, many of the bills he references as passed are not law. It’s hard to make the argument that oversight is the reason to continue when it looks like failure theatre,” he said. “We are ready, willing and able to work together with our Republican colleagues, but it is on them to join us,” Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told the press on Tuesday morning.

McCarthy's removal marked the first time in American history that a speaker of the House was removed through a motion to vacate. The vacancy started a process to elect a speaker that began following an eight-day recess. WASHINGTON (AP) — Speaker Kevin McCarthy was voted out of the job Tuesday in an extraordinary showdown — a first in U.S. history, forced by a contingent of hard-right conservatives and throwing the House and its Republican leadership into chaos. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., filed a motion to vacate resolution, but unlike this one, it was "non-privileged" and never came up for the vote.

On Tuesday, moments before the House began voting on the effort led by Gaetz to remove McCarthy from his role, Trump issued a broad statement about the internal squabbling on Truth Social. The former president, who is currently preoccupied with his civil fraud trial in New York, purposefully did not participate in the latest fight between Republicans, multiple sources familiar with the matter told CNN. Rep. Scott Perry, one of the eight Republicans to vote to oust McCarthy, said he doesn’t have a name for who he wants to see as speaker. Some House Republicans say they are stunned and don’t know what’s next now that Kevin McCarthy is ousted as speaker. McCarthy’s fate was deeply uncertain as the fiery debate unfolded, with much of the complaints against the speaker revolving around his truthfulness and his ability to keep the promises he has made since January to win the gavel.

Some have suggested that those opposing McCarthy could simply vote “present,” lowering his threshold to win — a tactic Pelosi and Boehner used to win with fewer than 218 votes. The Freedom Caucus’ early leaders, under Mark Meadows, the former North Carolina congressman who became Trump’s chief of staff, wielded the procedure to pressure Boehner and Ryan. “It’s all in jeopardy,” he told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Friday.

McCarthy remained stoic throughout the vote Tuesday, occasionally smiling but making little eye contact with his detractors. "It is becoming increasingly clear who the Speaker of the House already works for, and it's not the Republican conference," Gaetz declared on Monday as he argued for McCarthy's removal. Removing the speaker launches the House Republicans into chaos heading into a busy fall when Congress will need to fund the government again or risk a mid-November shutdown. While McCarthy enjoyed support from most Republicans in his slim majority, eight Republican detractors — many of the same hard-right holdouts who tried to stop him from becoming speaker in January — essentially forced him out.

The deep humbling of McCarthy could be seen as cruel, a snub by fellow lawmakers whose power was made possible by the Bakersfield Republican’s years of hard work as grand strategist and campaigner in chief for the House GOP. But the drip-drip torture of prolonged balloting was so egregiously self-inflicted, so glaring in the making and so abundantly well-deserved that it is impossible to muster even the slightest bit of sympathy. Amid the historic stalemate, California Congressman Mike Garcia stopped by "The Issue Is" to take Elex Michaelson behind-the-scenes of the chaos, the negotiations, and the crucial rule changes that ultimately sealed the deal for Speaker McCarthy. Mace, a former Trump critic, ultimately reversed course and endorsed him in the 2024 GOP presidential primaries, and he returned the favor. Templeton also backed Trump in the race after she initially supported Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C. As a nonprofit organization, the group doesn’t have to disclose its donors, and it’s not clear whether McCarthy is involved in this specific effort.

He made an agreement in January regarding the way Washington would work and he violated that agreement. Eight Republicans voted with the Democrats to remove Mr McCarthy, including Reps Andy Biggs, Ken Buck, Tim Burchett, Eli Crane, Bob Good, Nancy Mace, Matt Rosendale, and Mr Gaetz. The House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon narrowly voted to remove Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his position. She has written for outlets including the Washington Examiner, Daily Signal and Alexandria Times.

Bianculli of the Daily News was happy to see Edelstein "finally given a deservedly meaty co-starring role". Freelance critic Daniel Fienberg was disappointed that Leonard and Edelstein have not received more recognition for their performances. The contracts of Edelstein, Epps, and Leonard expired at the end of Season 7. As a cost-cutting measure, the three actors were asked to accept reduced salaries. Epps and Leonard came to terms with the producers, but Edelstein did not, and in May 2011 it was announced that she would not be returning for the show's eighth season.

The team employs the differential diagnosis method, listing possible etiologies on a whiteboard, then eliminating most of them, usually because one of the team (most often House) provides logical reasons for ruling them out. House often tends to arrive at the correct diagnosis seemingly out of the blue, often inspired by a passing remark made by another character. The series' original opening theme, as heard in the United States, comprises instrumental portions of "Teardrop" by Massive Attack. The piece was used in part because of the distinct tempo which roughly mimics the sound of a beating human heart. An acoustic version of "Teardrop", with guitar and vocals by José González, is heard as background music during the Season 4 finale Wilson's Heart. If the city you are looking for is not listed, that means we don't have any doctors in that city that match your first two criteria.

House is initially assigned a single team member, Dr. Chi Park (Charlyne Yi). After securing funding for his department in the season eight episode "Risky Business", House brings on former prison doctor Jessica Adams (Odette Annable) and rehires Chase and Taub. Gregory House, M.D., often construed as a misanthropic medical genius, heads a team of diagnostic fellows at the Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey. Most episodes revolve around the diagnosis of a primary patient and start with a cold open precredits scene set outside the hospital, showing events ending with the onset of the patient's symptoms. The typical episode follows the team in their attempts to diagnose and treat the patient's illness, which often fail until the patient's condition is critical. They usually treat only patients whom other doctors have not accurately diagnosed, and House routinely rejects cases that he does not find interesting.

Teamwork

We knew the network was looking for procedurals, and Paul [Attanasio] came up with this medical idea that was like a cop procedural. Our database contains doctors from all over the country and picking a location helps to narrow down the results. Nettwerk released the House M.D. Original Television Soundtrack album on September 18, 2007.

She noted the significance of "the fact that Hugh Laurie spans 6'2" and is taller than everybody else because it certainly makes those walk-and-talks pop". Nancy Franklin of The New Yorker described the show's "cool, Fantastic Voyage–like special effects of patients' innards. I'll bet you didn't know that when your kidneys shut down they sound like bubble wrap popping." "Cameras and special effects travel not only down the throat of one patient," another critic observed, "but up her nose and inside her brain and leg." Shelly Diamond (Bonnie Perlman) - A mother with several potential clinic patients. His character was a part of the team of diagnosticians who worked under House until the end of the third season when House fires him.

During clinic duty, House confounds patients with unwelcome observations into their personal lives, eccentric prescriptions, and unorthodox treatments. However, after seeming to be inattentive to their complaints, he regularly impresses them with rapid and accurate diagnoses. Analogies with some of the simple cases in the clinic occasionally inspire insights that help solve the team's case. Laurie's name appears next to a model of a human head with the brain exposed; Edelstein's name appears next to a visual effects–produced graphic of an angiogram of the heart.

Please choose the next closest city or back up and choose another medical specialty. This helps you find an doctor who practices a specific area of medicine. House seems to despise his patients, and in his view he has good reason. They often cause their own misery and always lie about it, and this makes his job all the more difficult. He'll only take a case if it seems unsolvable and he thrives on conflict and difficulty. In the end, though, he almost always comes through for the patient, though not always in the way viewers might expect.

Laurie later revealed that he initially thought the show's central character was Dr. James Wilson. He assumed that House was a supporting character, due to the nature of the character, until he received the full script of the pilot episode. Laurie, the son of a doctor, Ran Laurie, said he felt guilty for "being paid more to become a fake version of [his] own father". From the start of Season 3, he was being paid $275,000 to $300,000 per episode, as much as three times what he had previously been making on the series. By the show's fifth season, Laurie was earning around $400,000 per episode, making him one of the highest-paid actors on network television. In 2004, Shore, Attanasio and Jacobs, pitched the show (untitled at the time) to Fox as a CSI-style medical detective program, a hospital whodunit in which the doctors investigated symptoms and their causes.

For a charity auction, T-shirts bearing the phrase "Everybody Lies" were sold for a limited time starting on April 23, 2007, on Housecharitytees.com. Proceeds from sales of those shirts and others with the phrase "Normal's Overrated" went to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). House cast and crew members also regularly attend fundraisers for NAMI and have featured in ads for the organization that have appeared in Seventeen and Rolling Stone. The show's efforts have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the charity. Jacobs said that through their association with NAMI, they hope to take "some of the stigma off that illness". The most-watched episode of House is the Season 4 episode Frozen, which aired after Super Bowl XLII.

Each season introduces a recurring guest star, who appears in a multi-episode story arc.[5] The fourth season was the only exception to this pattern. After this, Foreman hires both Cameron and Chase, but, soon, House comes back, spurring the return of Thirteen and Taub, too. When the dictator ("The Tyrant") dies because of Chase's intentional misunderstanding, Cameron and even Chase decide to leave the PPTH.

House assigns each applicant a number between one and 40, and pares them down to seven finalists. He assesses their performance in diagnostic cases, assisted by Foreman, who returns to the department after his dismissal from another hospital for House-like behavior that makes him otherwise unemployable. While Foreman's return means only two slots are open, House tricks Cuddy into allowing him to hire three new assistants. He ultimately selects Dr. Chris Taub (Peter Jacobson), a former plastic surgeon; Dr. Lawrence Kutner (Kal Penn), a sports medicine specialist; and Dr. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley (Olivia Wilde), an internist (nicknamed for her number in the elimination contest).

New York's John Leonard called the series "medical TV at its most satisfying and basic", while The Boston Globe's Matthew Gilbert appreciated that the show did not sugarcoat the flaws of the characters to assuage viewers' fears about "HMO factories". Variety's Brian Lowry, less impressed, wrote that the show relied on "by-the-numbers storytelling, albeit in a glossy package". Tim Goodman of the San Francisco Chronicle described it as "mediocre" and unoriginal. In the seventh episode of Season 2, Hunting, Cameron and Chase have a one-night stand. In the middle of Season 3, they initiate a sexual relationship that Cameron insists be casual; when Chase declares that he "wants more", Cameron ends the affair.

Jennifer Morrison felt that her audition for the part of Dr. Allison Cameron was a complete disaster. However, before her audition, Singer had watched some of her performances, including on Dawson's Creek, and already wanted to cast her in the role. Morrison left the show when her character was written out in the middle of Season 6.

Opening sequence

Robert Sean Leonard had received the script for the CBS show Numb3rs, as well as that for House. Leonard thought the Numb3rs script was "kind of cool" and planned to audition for the show. However, he decided that the character he was up for, Charlie Eppes, was in too many scenes; he later observed, "The less I work, the happier I am". He believed that his House audition was not particularly good, but that his lengthy friendship with Singer helped win him the part of Dr. Wilson. Singer had enjoyed Lisa Edelstein's portrayal of a prostitute on The West Wing, and sent her a copy of the pilot script.

U.S. television ratings

References to the fact that House was based on the famous fictional detective Sherlock Holmes created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle appear throughout the series. Shore explained that he was always a Holmes fan and found the character's indifference to his clients unique. The resemblance is evident in House's reliance on deductive reasoning and psychology, even where it might not seem obviously applicable, and his reluctance to accept cases he finds uninteresting. His investigatory method is to eliminate diagnoses logically as they are proved impossible; Holmes used a similar method. Both characters play instruments (House plays the piano, the guitar, and the harmonica; Holmes, the violin) and take drugs (House is dependent on Vicodin; Holmes is often dependent on cocaine). House's relationship with Dr. James Wilson echoes that between Holmes and his confidant, Dr. John Watson.

Epps' name is superimposed upon a rib cage X-ray; Leonard's name appears on a drawing of the two hemispheres of the brain. The producers originally wanted to include an image of a cane and an image of a Vicodin bottle, but Fox objected. Morrison's title card was thus lacking an image; an aerial shot of rowers on Princeton University's Lake Carnegie was finally agreed upon to accompany her name. Spencer's name appears next to an old-fashioned anatomical drawing of a spine. Between the presentations of Spencer and Shore's names is a scene of House and his three original team members walking down one of the hospital's hallways. The opening sequence begins with an MRI of a head with an image of the boxed "H" from the logo (the international symbol for hospital) in the foreground.

Twenty Vicodin

In the two-part season finale, Volakis attempts to shepherd a drunken House home when Wilson is unavailable. All of them play doctors who work at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey. Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), the title character, heads the Department of Diagnostic Medicine. A significant plot element is House's use of Vicodin to manage pain, caused by an infarction in his quadriceps muscle five years before the show's first season, which also forces him to use a cane. In the first season, 11th episode Detox, House admits he is addicted to Vicodin, but says he does not have a problem because the pills "let me do my job, and they take away my pain".

Characters

Throughout Season 7, House and Cuddy try to make their relationship work. Because many of his hypotheses are based on epiphanies or controversial insights, he often has trouble obtaining permission for medical procedures he considers necessary from his superior, who in all but the final season is hospital administrator Dr. Lisa Cuddy. This is especially the case when the proposed procedures involve a high degree of risk or are ethically questionable. Frequent disagreements occur between House and his team, especially Cameron, whose standards of medical ethics are more conservative than those of the other characters.

Chase

House is sentenced to one night in jail for contempt of court and finishes his rehabilitation under the influence of Vicodin. House was a co-production of Heel and Toe Films, David Shore's Shore Z Productions, and Bryan Singer's Bad Hat Harry Production in association with Universal Network Television for Fox. Attanasio, Jacobs, Shore and Singer, were executive producers of the program for its entirety. It's not a show about addiction, but you can't throw something like this into the mix and not expect it to be noticed and commented on. There have been references to the amount of his consumption increasing over time. It's becoming less and less useful a tool for dealing with his pain, and it's something we're going to continue to deal with, continue to explore.

Secondary Characters

The eighth and final season of the show primarily revolves around the relationship between House and Wilson after Wilson is diagnosed with terminal cancer. While Jacobson and Wilde play central characters (as did Penn), they did not receive star billing until Season 7. They were credited as "Also Starring", with their names appearing after the opening sequence. In Season 7, Jacobson and Wilde received star billing; new regular cast member Tamblyn did not.

His addiction has led his colleagues, Cuddy and Wilson, to encourage him to go to drug rehabilitation several times. When he has no access to Vicodin or experiences unusually intense pain, he occasionally self-medicates with other narcotic analgesics such as morphine, oxycodone, and methadone. House also frequently drinks liquor when he is not on medical duty, and classifies himself as a "big drinker". Toward the end of Season 5, House begins to hallucinate; after eliminating other possible diagnoses, Wilson and he determine that his Vicodin addiction is the most likely cause. House goes into denial about this for a brief time, but at the close of the season finale, he commits himself to Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital.

Edelstein was attracted to the quality of the writing and her character's "snappy dialogue" with House, and was cast as Dr. Lisa Cuddy. No longer a world where an idealized doctor has all the answers or a hospital where gurneys race down the hallways, House's focus is on the pharmacological—and the intellectual demands of being a doctor. The trial-and-error of new medicine skillfully expands the show beyond the format of a classic procedural, and at the show's heart, a brilliant but flawed physician is doling out the prescriptions—a fitting symbol for modern medicine. The series' executive producers included Shore, Attanasio, Attanasio's business partner Katie Jacobs, and film director Bryan Singer.

But, Chase's desire to be part of House's team makes Cameron quit (though she later returns for the episode "Lockdown"). At the beginning of season seven, Thirteen ostensibly goes away to Rome (it's later revealed that this was actually a lie), leaving a vacancy on House's team. House proposes then, giving a chance to the rest of his team, to hire a new member.

This is then overlaid with an image of Dr. House's face taken from the pilot episode with the show's full title appearing across his face. House's head then fades and the show's title is underlined and has the "M.D." appear next to it, producing the entire logo of the show. All subsequent episodes contain a longer sequence including the names of the six featured cast members and creator David Shore. Laurie's name appears first, followed by the names of the five other featured cast members in alphabetical order (Edelstein, Epps, Leonard, Morrison, and Spencer, then Shore).

House's original team of diagnosticians consists of Dr. Eric Foreman (Omar Epps), a neurologist; Dr. Robert Chase (Jesse Spencer), an intensivist; and Dr. Allison Cameron (Jennifer Morrison), an immunologist. In the Season 3 episode Family, Foreman announces his resignation, telling House, "I don't want to turn into you." During the season finale, House tells Chase that he has either learned everything he can, or nothing at all, and dismisses him from the team. All eight seasons were released on DVD and Blu-ray by Universal in North America, Europe and Australia. As of June 16, 2009, the show has been aired in more than 60 countries, with 86 million viewers worldwide.[13] In the following list, the number in the first column refers to the episode's number within the entire series. "US viewers in millions" refers to the number of Americans in millions who watched the episode live while it was broadcast or by a few hours later with a digital video recorder.

House reached its peak Nielsen ratings in its third season, attracting an average of 19.4 million viewers per episode. According to Jacobs, the production team was surprised that the show garnered such a large audience. In its fifth season, the show attracted 12.0 million viewers per episode and slipped to nineteenth place overall.

Through the end of the sixth season, more than two dozen writers have contributed to the program. The most prolific have been Kaplow (18 episodes), Blake (17), Shore (16), Friend (16), Lerner (16), Moran (14), and Egan (13). The show's most prolific directors through its first six seasons were Deran Sarafian (22 episodes), who was not involved in Season 6, and Greg Yaitanes (17). Of the more than three dozen other directors who have worked on the series, only David Straiton directed as many as 10 episodes through the sixth season. Elan Soltes has been the visual effects supervisor since the show began.

House is a series that is currently running and has 8 seasons (178 episodes). Critics have also reacted positively to the show's original supporting cast, which the Post's Shales called a "first-rate ensemble". Leonard's portrayal of Dr. Wilson has been considered Emmy Award worthy by critics with TV Guide, Entertainment Weekly, and USA Today.

Lana Del Reys Waffle House Shift Is This Weeks Biggest Internet Mystery

Little by little, there’s a lot more room for storytelling and saying different stuff. You’re seeing a lot more good girl songwriters, too. Well, who am I to say that? I like a lot of the singers out right now.

Lana Del Rey’s Waffle House Mystery Is Finally Solved

The resulting video didn’t last 10 seconds. But after the restaurant’s manager posted the clip to Facebook and a few fan selfies featuring Del Rey in uniform popped up on the usual platforms, a narrative took hold. Lana Del Rey, Grammy-nominated artist who has sold 12.3 million albums, was working at Waffle House. Music blogs, morning news shows and food magazines all attempted to assign meaning to the bread crumbs — music video? — for the better part of a week. In reality, she just has family ties to the small town, makes friends easily and, like anybody with a predilection for breakfast food or Americana, knows that a diner is a great place to kill time.

Lana Del Rey, meet Waffle House Lana Del Rey: Singer poses with a fan dressed as her for Halloween

She wore the standard blue uniform and name badge to serve the guests. One fan posted a selfie with the singer at the Waffle House on Facebook, along with a signed copy of the singer's poetry book, “Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass." Even before those images, there were a string of mysterious Del Rey sightings, including a Birmingham nail salon, interacting with fans in downtown Florence, and shopping at a Russellville boutique. At the end of her stay before leaving for a concert in Arkansas, she also did an impromptu recording session at legendary Sheffield recording studio Muscle Shoals Sound. Del Rey added that she loves it when other young female artists reach out to her to discuss the impact she's had on their music. "I always felt like the older sister to pretty much everyone I ever met," she said.

The "Paris, Texas" singer just really loves breakfast food, apparently

Was she recording new music? No, per AL.com, which contacted multiple studios in the area to check their schedules. Was she recording a new music video, perhaps for the song “Paris, Texas,” which mentions Florence? Was she “going Method” for a switch to acting or recording an orange juice commercial? Were royalties from streaming simply not cutting it anymore? For two months, Del Rey—as she is wont to do—left fans in the dark.

I also feel, maybe spiritually, there was something I needed to learn from having people be so adamantly and vocally against it. There was room for me to look at why. It’s possible there are some things I might not have delved into [in my music] had I not heard the same critical throughline over and over and over again. Possibly, there was a bigger-picture reason for that.

According to the star, a casual morning visit to the diner chain turned into an hours-long hangout and snowballed into a viral moment. Lyrics for a song by the singer called "Paris, Texas" mention the town of Florence in Alabama, but that was one of the only clues connecting why she chose that city, and that restaurant. With a net worth that isreportedly in the range ofabout $30 million, she had fans wondering if it was part of an upcoming music project, or rehearsals for a film, perhaps. In recent days, Del Rey has also been spotted at several other places in Alabama, including downtown Florence and a nail salon in Birmingham. Del Rey also posed for photos with fans at the Alabama eatery.

It just goes to show you that it’s not personal. Sometimes, the things you read, there’s a little bit of projection there. That’s the only guy who I’ve ever remembered his full name, but I’m not going to say it.

Lana Del Rey Spotted Working at an Alabama Waffle House - Food & Wine

Lana Del Rey Spotted Working at an Alabama Waffle House.

Posted: Tue, 25 Jul 2023 07:00:00 GMT [source]

It’s not like you have to be nice to be good [in music]. But, if you happen to be nice and a great singer, it makes me happy for the culture. I always had girls telling me [things like] that. Maybe not the critics or anybody else — but singers I knew, no matter how big or small, would write me letters. I always felt like the older sister to pretty much everyone I ever met.

Now, in a new profile by The Hollywood Reporter's Mikey O'Connell, the singer reflects on the experience. She was spending time with her siblings at the diner, sitting in the booth for three hours, when a server asked if they wanted shirts. Lana put the uniform on and got behind the register, and the servers let her help serve a regular his simple order. After seeing Del Rey donning the chain’s blue button-up uniforms, many fans thought the singer might be switching to a career in serving, but she revealed that it wasn’t nearly that serious.

Lana Del Rey‘s fans are fascinated with pretty much everything the “A&W” singer does, especially when they get a rare chance to interact with her offstage, in the wild. That’s why when she popped into a Waffle House in Florence, Alabama in July and worked a shift pouring coffee and chatting the patrons up — she even had an official “Lana” name tag — it briefly broke the internet. She also offered a few more details about one of the videos that emerged from the unexpected shift, though it wasn’t totally clear which one. It was, for lack of a more imaginative, let alone fitting term, iconic.

I didn’t know if it would be received well. But there’s a lot of weirdos out there now, so, we’re fine. I started at a time when things were very much one way.

Lana Del Rey has been spending time in Alabama in recent days and was recently seen working at a Waffle House. Yes, an actual Waffle House. “To say I am ecstatic is an understatement!!! LANITA ❤️ I have been a huuuge fan of Lana Del Rey for over a decade, so meeting her today was truly insane,” wrote Karina Cisneros Juarez on Facebook.

On Sept. 20, Del Rey gave an interview to the Hollywood Reporter, reflecting on her career so far, musicians who count themselves among her admirers, including Bruce Springsteen and Billie Eilish. She could be seen in a video checking her mobile phone and telling someone not to film another person "without his permission." Karina Cisneros Juarez told the local media outlet AL.com about her encounter with Del Rey. When the singer isn’t dropping into a Waffle House, she might just be doing a pop-up performance at a dive bar. You never have any idea how things are going to turn out, and I’ve recently had this clear feeling that I’m not supposed to know — as much as I’d like to see the next step on the staircase. I want to do so much, but there’s just so many left turns an individual can take … and I appear to like to learn the hard way.

But there was a reason not to feel confident. Another Instagram post from the same fan account showed a series of photos of the singer in waitress mode — in one she reached for a coffee pot, while another showed her speaking to fans sitting in the restaurant. Del Rey also posed with two fans in other pics, grinning as her custom Waffle House name tag popped in the pictures. “Had so much fun with  Lana Del Rey, she is so humble , funny and such a  good sport!! ” Tuttle wrote on Facebook, posting pictures and video on July 20. The manager of the Waffle House posted a short clip of the “Summertime Sadness” singer to Facebook in July.
